Video editing, effects and colour grading software DaVinci Resolve and GPU renderer Octane X will both become available for Apple’s iPad tablets later this year, Apple has announced.
The announcement was made during yesterday’s launch of Apple’s 2022 iPad and iPad Pro.
New iPadOS editions of DaVince Resolve and Octane X due later in 2022
Apple’s launch video for the new iPad Pro very much positions it as a professional video production tool: a use case strengthened by the news that it will be possible to use Da Vinci Resolve on the tablet.
The popular video editing, effects and colour grading software, version 18.0 of which was released earlier this year, was previously only available for desktop systems, including Windows and Linux as well as macOS.
The news that Octane X will be available for iPad is less of a surprise, Otoy having announced an iOS edition of its GPU renderer over three years ago, alongside the macOS edition.
The macOS version shipped in 2021, but there was previously no release date for its mobile counterpart.
Release date, pricing and system requirements
Da Vinci Resolve for iPad and Octane X for iPad will be available “later this year”: presumably soon after the new iPad Pro ships on 22 October 2022. We don’t have pricing or system requirements yet.
However, the base desktop edition of DaVinci Resolve is free; the advanced edition, DaVinci Resolve Studio, costs $295. The macOS edition of Octane X, now renamed Octane X Classic, is also free.
