Free tool: Batch Tonemapper | CGBucket

Online HDRI library HDRMAPS – aka artist Grzegorz Wronkowski – has released Batch Tonemapper, a new free tool for generating thumbnail previews for EXR and HDR files.

Batch-generate JPEG thumbnails for HDRIs so that they can be previewed in Windows File Explorer
Batch Tonemapper provides a workaround for one of the irritations of working with HDRIs on Windows machines: that they don’t have proper thumbnails in the File Explorer, only icons.

The software batch-processes folders of HDRIs, automatically generating thumbnails in JPEG format, making it possible to preview the files without having to open them in Photoshop or similar software.

Users can set the dimensions of the thumbnail, the JPEG quality, and the tonemapping method used.

Also works on Linux
The software is a portable application, so it doesn’t need to be installed locally on your machine, and runs on Linux as well as Windows, although Linux users have other options for displaying thumbnails of EXR files.

macOS’s Finder should display thumbnails for EXR files natively.

Licence and system requirements
Batch Tonemapper is compatible with Windows 10+ and Linux. It’s free, and licensed for commercial use.
