Stock effects library ActionVFX is releasing one free pack of its FX assets per day between now and 27 December 2022.
The files, which include both footage shot practically and rendered simulations, are provided in ProRes format at 2K resolution, and are licenced for use in commercial projects.

Each of the packs contains five files from ActionVFX’s library of commercial assets.
For example, today’s pack has practical footage of a wall fire, a muzzle flash, electric sparks and a pool of blood, plus a rendered simulation of a dust wave.
All are designed for compositing into VFX or motion graphics projects, with the videos shot against plain black backgrounds, and the simulation coming with render passes including depth and motion vectors.
Each is available for one day only, with a new pack available each day, and since we’re already on the second day of the promotion, there are seven left to download, including today’s pack.
The free asset packs are part of a wider VFX-mas event, which includes discounts on ActionVFX’s commercial assets and extra download credits for new subscribers.
Licence conditions and system requirements
The files in the free X-mas asset packs are available under ActionVFX’s Individual licence, which is for one person with annual revenue of up to $200,000/year, and which includes use in commercial projects.
The file formats vary between assets, but 10-Bit ProRes 422 HQ or 12-Bit ProRes 4444 seem to be typical. All of the videos are provided at 2K (2,048 x 1,080px) resolution.
To download the files, you will need to register for a free account on the site. If you’re already an ActionVFX subscriber, you will need to toggle off your subscription before downloading them.
