Polycam app turns an IPad into a Lidar scanner

Polycam is an app for the 2020 IPad Pro and above that uses its Lidar sensor to capture textured 3D scenes in near to real-time. All processing is carried out on the device, so there’s no need to have an internet connection. Accuracy is currently “inch level” but for pre-viz and reference, it might prove enough to be a handy tool. According to comments by the developers on a Youtube video, a high definition mode is in the works that would “first run on a fast low-res mode, and then reprocess it on high-res mode later”.

The application is free to use with a one-off in-app purchase to enable exporting to OBJ, USDZ, GLTF or STL . Find out more on the Polycam website.
